Lions recognised for commitment to fundraising

At the latest meeting of the Hornsea Lions, Lion President Joan Gales showed the members the trophy that the club had recently been awarded.

The award was from the Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF, based in the USA) in recognition of becoming a Model Club.

It is part of Campaign 100, which was set up to mark the centenary of Lions Clubs International, and is recognition of the club’s outstanding commitment to fundraising for the organisation.

Lions clubs throughout the world (which have 1.5 million members) contribute to the LCIF, which enables them to donate large sums of money directly to Lions clubs anywhere in the world to help in the event of a disaster (natural or manmade) – for instance, £200,000 was donated to Lions clubs in Ukraine within days of the Russian invasion.

The meeting was also the last one for Joan as president. Lion Jean Robinson takes over the role on July 1 for the next 12 months.
