Lifeboat crew give thanks for ‘special’ donation

Withernsea lifeboat station’s team had the chance to say thank you in person to a local woman who collected £200 for the charity at the funeral of her late husband.

Peter Brannan, an adopted son of Withernsea who died recently aged 87, had moved to the town with his wife Anne more than 20 years ago and loved being by the sea.

Anne said: “So it was only right that we used Peter’s funeral to support the wonderful job the lifeboat crews do for us all.”

Darren Hickey, lifeboat operations manager at Withernsea RNLI said: “It was a real pleasure to meet Mrs Brannan. We talked about how much her husband Peter had loved living in Withernsea, and also what that means to us all.

“We are a charity so donations like this allow us to continue the lifesaving work we do. It’s made all the more special when they come from people who love Withernsea as much as we do.”

Anne added: “Peter would have been proud that we raised money for the Withernsea lifeboat – he really did love this place and we couldn’t think of a better cause to donate to.”
