How your old bras could help beat cancer

by Rebecca Hannant

A Hornsea woman is collecting bras in aid of a breast cancer charity.

Georgina Wilson has been collecting bras since 2022 in aid of the charity Against Breast Cancer, which uses the bras to support small businesses in developing countries around the world.

The charity also stops the unwanted bras going to landfill, instead giving them a new lease of
life in countries such as Togo, Ghana and Kenya, where they are expensive to make and buy.

For every tonne of bras collected, Against Breast Cancer receives £700 to fund breast cancer research.

Georgina said: “I decided to do it as a couple of friends of mine were diagnosed with breast cancer in the last few years.

“One of them has started a bra collection but she lives down south. So, I looked at where I could donate mine and there were no collection points near here, so I thought I’d just start one.”
