Hornsea WI named among top branches for recruitment

Hornsea WI has been named as the one of the top branches in the region for recruiting members after seeing a significant rise in the number of women joining between April 2023 to March 2024.

In total, 18 new members joined the branch.

The award was a surprise for the group, which received it at the East Yorkshire Federation of Women’s Institutes’ annual meeting in Willerby. President Sandra Welford collected the award from federation chairman Christine Snowden.

Sandra said: “We are so proud and happy to receive it. We hope to carry on and attract new members, so the group continues to flourish. New members are always welcome.

“Hornsea has been successful in losing the image that women have to be at a certain age in their lives to join.

“Our members include many mums of young children through to those enjoying their later years. We all have in common a love for our community and aim to bring fun and friendship to those who join.”

Members enjoyed a talk by the Laughing Gardener, Paul Robinson, at the April meeting.

The May meeting will be on Monday, May 13, at Hornsea Methodist Church at 7.30pm, and features a talk by Charlotte from Transformed Styling on the power of colour.
