Firms urged to apply for council support

Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart is encouraging businesses to apply for personalised support from East Riding Council to help them grow and thrive.

He says many businesses may not know that they have access to “first-class” business support from East Riding Council, with special advisers available to help with applications for grant funding and information about exporting.

About 30 businesses in Withernsea – including the Boat Shed, Alexandra Hotel, Bengal Lancer, the Card Shop, Shores Centre and Holderness Hardware – have already benefited from this and have been given approximately £150,000 of grants in total between them. This has been used in a variety of ways from improving their shop signs to remodelling their premises.

This support is available following East Riding Council being allocated £1.6 billion from the Government as part of the Love Your High Street fund, which is used to fund projects that will help the high street flourish. It has since been replaced by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. However, the grants available to businesses in the area remain the same.

Businesses across Beverley and Holderness can receive this support by contacting East Riding Council by emailing [email protected].

South East Holderness ward councillors Lyn Healing and Sean McMaster said: “The support that this Government has given to our High Street is phenomenal. East Riding Council is allocating funding and support to individual businesses who would like to see their businesses flourish.

“So please don’t be shy as you can see from the named businesses that have already benefited from the fund it is for all that qualify the criteria.

“Just pick up the phone or email and apply and I look forward to seeing how the fund will work for you and ultimately our high street.”

Mr Stuart said: “Hundreds of businesses from across the East Riding have received help thanks to the £1.6 billion Love Your High Street Fund and I want to see even more businesses take advantage of this staggering amount of money.

“Having spoken to one of the lucky recipients, it’s clear that the support from the East Riding’s advisers is second to none.

“So, if you own a business and could use an experienced supporter to take your business to the next level, now is the time to take advantage and contact the council.”
