Hornsea Inshore Rescue has received two donations from supporters to help its work saving lives and promoting sea safety.
Long-standing lifeboat supporter Joan Waugh visited Hornsea’s independent lifeboat service last Thursday during the crew’s training session.
Joan and her late husband, John, had visited many RNLI lifeboat stations around the country, but this was Joan’s first visit to an independent station.
She was shown around the lifeboat and facilities by crew member Shona Richards and watched the lifeboat being launched as part of a training exercise.
Joan then presented the charity with a £200 donation in memory of John, which was gratefully received on behalf of the crew and support team by shore crew member Matt Smith.
Matt said the money would go towards the purchase of the latest version of a specialised emergency basket stretcher with spine board.
Meanwhile, Seaside Soul DJ Kai Rivers also visited Hornsea Inshore Rescue to present the charity with a donation of £500.
Seaside Soul evenings have been taking place at Hornsea Floral Hall for about 12 years and have raised funds for a number of charities, including Children’s Air Ambulance, BH Equine Rescue and Hornsea Inshore Rescue.
The latest donation was raised at the Easter Seaside Soul event, mainly through the raffle of an Easter bunny.
Kai said: “We are all pleased to make yet another donation for such a good cause. If it wasn’t for the inshore lifeboat Hornsea would be stuck.”
Hornsea Inshore Rescue is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is a totally independent local rescue organisation supported solely by donations and grants, and is not part of the RNLI.
Based at the southern end of Hornsea promenade, it is run entirely by volunteers and receives no government or RNLI funding.
Visitors and volunteers are always welcome, whether as crew members, fundraisers or general helpers. Comprehensive training is provided. Anyone interested can phone Sue on 07796 257989 or Ian on 01964 534302.
