Christmas display lights up village

By Terry Bearpark

Residents and visitors to Ottringham last Christmas marvelled at the festive train at a house in South End Road.

It failed to survive the winter and had to be scrapped, but now it has been replaced by a new display – consisting of two motorbikes pulling Santa’s sleigh and a large racing car running the full width of the garden outside the house. It is the work of Bob Ingleson and his son Mike who have put many hours of work into it over the past few months.

Some 38,000 LEDs have been fitted at half-inch intervals to the plywood models, which involved up-scaling designs and cutting out the shapes.

Bob said: “When we realised the train had reached the end of its life, we wanted to replace it with an up-to-date display. It has been hard work but the results are well worth it.”

At the left-hand end of the display is a collecting box and Bob is requesting donations to Marie Curie, which, along with Bells Home Care of Withernsea, cared for his wife Pauline during her illness.
