Choir and dancers brighten up a dull day

By Terry Bearpark

It certainly was the festive season at Withernsea High School on Saturday afternoon as the Withernsea Ladies Choir presented their Christmas Concert.

Joining the choir were the Withernsea Primary School Choir, the Withernsea High School dance group from years eight and nine, AttenDance and guest cellist Chris Busse, who all ensured the audience were well entertained.

The concert opened with the two choirs performing Torches as the youngsters entered the hall, followed by the audience joining in with Once In Royal David’s City.

With favourites such as Ding Dong Merrily On High, Rudolph, Hark the Herald Angels Sing, White Christmas and O Come All Ye Faithful, the appreciative audience heartily joined in with great enthusiasm.

The dance group showed their skill with a performance of Xmas Dance, while AttenDance put their own spin on the proceedings with their routine, Xmas Hip Hop Mix.

Chris Busse accompanied the choir with a rendition of All On a Silent Night, receiving much applause from the audience.

Withernsea’s Mayor, Cllr Jacqui Blackburn, and consort Cllr Ian Blackburn were also guests.

The Withernsea Ladies Choir, who will be celebrating their 95th anniversary in 2023, were accompanied by Paul Pike and directed by conductor Patrick Pearson.

They would like to thank the high school for hosting the concert and sponsors the Big Local, Withernsea and District Lions, the Buffs and Smile for their support.

New members are always welcome and should contact president Jean Carter, secretary Gill Walker or email [email protected].

The choir will also be holding another Christmas concert on Saturday, December 17, at 2pm at St Patrick’s Church in Patrington, organised by the Friends of Patrington Church.

Tickets, priced £5, are available from Maureen on 01964 630960, Malcolm on 01964 631308, or on the door. Refreshments will be available and a raffle will be held.
