The CEO of the Southern Holderness Resource Centre – better known as Shores – is to celebrate its 20th anniversary with a “20 for 20” charity challenge.
Since 2005, Shores, a purpose-built community centre, has offered its services to the people of Withernsea and surrounding areas, led by CEO Jayne Nendick and her team of dedicated volunteers.
Over the years, the centre has helped individuals with food poverty, employment and education support, social inclusion and financial advice through a range of advice drop-ins, workshops and other community activities. Meanwhile, it has worked with various providers in Hull and the East Riding to signpost individuals to other types of support.
The centre has recently adapted to the changing times with its DASH Studio aimed at providing people of all ages with technological and digital skills such as photography, 3-D modelling, gaming, crafts, video editing and more. It has also opened its doors to local businesses and those looking to start their own companies with specialist advice and workshops.
To mark the 20th anniversary, Jayne will undertake 20 separate challenges between November 28 and March 7. These will engage various groups, organisations and community members, reflecting the theme of “Celebration of Appreciation”.
The challenges will feature some of Jayne’s favourite pastimes, such as cycling and baking, alongside some of her least favourite activities, too, including gaming and water-related tasks.
The celebration kicks off with Jayne and the team collecting food at Tesco Withernsea as part of the FareShare winter campaign.
Their goal is to gather 20 bags of donations over three days. Jayne said: “FareShare does a great job and is one of the main distribution partners that provide stock to the Shores Community Pantry. Our first big thank you goes to them for the work they help us support in the town.”
Shores is announcing the second challenge on its Facebook page at noon on Thursday, November 28.
