Charities benefit from auction at pub

by Terry Bearpark

Thanks to the generosity of local businesses, residents and the skill of Holderness’s finest auctioneers, two charities have benefited from sizeable donations.

After a harvest festival service held at St Nicholas Church in Hollym in September, an auction took place at the nearby Plough Inn, courtesy of landlord Andy Ward.

Auctioneers Ralph Ward and Tim Fussey soon worked their magic, and some £3,200 was raised thanks to customers digging deep into their pockets.

The cash was divided equally between the Humber and Holderness branch of the RNLI and Care After Combat, which is dedicated to supporting former British Armed Forces personnel, and their families, in the justice system.

The RNLI cheque was presented to representatives of the charity at the Plough last week.
