The summer and new cricket season is almost upon us, and this coming weekend is Patrington Cricket Club’s annual Get Set weekend.
It is hoped as many volunteers as possible can come and help get the ground and clubhouse ready for next weekend, with various tasks still to be completed. People will be at the ground between 9am and 4pm – any help will be greatly appreciated. Plenty of fencing needs painting, so if anybody has some spare white gloss they would like to donate, it would be a huge help.
Plenty of activity has been taking place down at Southside over the winter. A huge thank you goes to groundsman Connor McKinley, who has worked hard during the off-season, and has the outfield looking in great shape ahead of the first friendly in a couple of weeks.
Along with DC, the pair have made strong progress with square preparation, and they’ve also carried out a full revamp of the scorer’s room. Con took the lead in reboarding and decorating the entire room, with new furniture and carpeting. It is unrecognisable compared with last season and will be a much more welcoming place for home and away scorers in 2025.
A big thank you also goes to Martin at Withernsea Carpets for his kind donation of the carpet – contributions like this are hugely appreciated and allow the club to save funds for other areas.
The first fixture of 2025 will be a friendly between the club’s first XI and Brandesburton at Southside on Saturday, April 12, with a noon start. The seconds then entertain Hull Strikers at Southside the following Saturday, while the Firsts travel to Beverley on the Sunday, where they may be reunited with seamer Billy Ineson, who transferred to the Beavers in the off-season.
The club would like to wish Billy the best of luck as he joins a side whose first team will play in the YPLN Premier Division – a league above Patrington’s first team, who will compete in the newly formed Premier Two Division. This marks the highest standard in the club’s 175-year history and is sure to be a tough assignment for Ashley McKinley’s men, but they are looking forward to travelling to some new places, including the home grounds of York, Harrogate and Stamford Bridge, to name just a few.
To celebrate the club’s 175th anniversary, a commemorative coloured kit will be released for use in the various cup competitions this season, including a new Hundred-style competition. News on the shirt and how to order will be released in the coming weeks.
The club recently held its annual race night at the Willows – a big thank you to all those who attended or bought a horse, contributing to some vital funds being raised. A special thank you also goes to the following race sponsors: Holderness Home Care, Richardsons Electrical, Southgates, Danny Golby, Jason McKinley, Willows Club, Medcalf Builders and Shields Caravan Repairs.
This was a much-needed fundraiser, with the funds going towards buying new covers and boundary rope – part of the stipulations of promotion.
In terms of sponsorship, the club has a range of opportunities available, including business packages, match ball sponsorship and player sponsorship. For more details, please contact us via email ([email protected]), or message the club through our Facebook page, where you can also stay up to date with all the latest news: facebook.com/patringtoncricket.
Outdoor nets have begun and will continue to run on Thursday nights (weather permitting) throughout the season. Sessions will begin between 5.30pm and 6pm, and all players are encouraged to attend. Anyone interested in getting involved in playing is welcome to come along – new faces will be warmly welcomed.
This year’s fantasy cricket is now live. To enter a team, visit patrington.fantasyclubcricket.co.uk to register. Unlimited team changes can be made until midday on the day of the first game. Entry is just £10 per team for the full season, with weekly and overall prizes up for grabs. It’s hoped as many people as possible will sign up.
Hopefully the weather gods will be kind to us in 2025. If you fancy a day in the sun, you’re more than welcome to join us at Southside – with a home game every Saturday and most Sundays, it would be great to see plenty of familiar (and new) faces around the ground throughout the year.
