Calling all men: find your voice with Humber Harmony!

A male a cappella singing group is holding an open rehearsal in a bid to encourage more men to join them.

Humber Harmony, who have performed around Holderness in the past 12 months, appearing at Withernsea, Hornsea, Aldbrough, Brandesburton and Hedon, sing in four-part harmony.

Member Tony Porter said: “We are just a bunch of blokes who enjoy singing together. Very few of us can read music, or have really had much other experience of choirs.

“We learn our part by listening to learning tracks, and lots of practice too. Singing together with no backing music or instruments means that when it really comes together it is almost magical. We love singing to others too, and best of all we love a pint and a chat afterwards!

“There is a part for every voice, so as long as you can hold a tune you will find a space. It is like Men in Sheds without the tools, and singing is good for you mentally and physically.”

There is always a friendly welcome and the group’s members come from all over Hull and the East Riding and even Lincolnshire.

Humber Harmony’s rehearsals are held on Monday nights between 7pm and 9pm at the Quaker Meeting House in Bean Street, Hull. There is plenty of parking and level access.

The open rehearsal will take place on Monday, February 3. Men can come along and see if it is for them, and then this will be followed by several weeks where all will learn a couple of songs together.

The songs will be Anything Goes by Cole Porter and from the musical of that name, along with Every Little Thing She Does is Magic, written by Sting for the Police.

Those who are interested in attending are asked to contact Andy Kneeshaw at [email protected] or on 07971 111052 in case of last-minute changes. For more information, visit humberharmony.org.

There is also a sister chorus for women, Three Crown Sound, and they meet on Tuesdays. Their details can be found at threecrownsound.org.
