Buffs come to the aid of twirlers

by Terry Bearpark

Withernsea Twirlers, formed some 10 years ago, has helped hundreds of youngsters to develop their skills with batons and cheerleading as individuals or as part of a team.

They have represented the town on many occasions, especially during Carnival week, helping to boost their confidence.

Recently numbers have dwindled and the group has been struggling to raise enough funds to cover its costs, mainly with room rent.

However, a letter asking for help, to the Tower Littlewood branch of the RAOB, based at the Pier Hotel, brought them good news – a very generous donation of £250 towards their costs.

The cheque was presented at last Sunday’s weekly meeting of the RAOB by Provincial Grand Primo of Hull and District Brother Ian Grantham who said they were delighted to help such a good cause and wished them well in their endeavours.

The Withernsea Twirlers meet every Wednesday at the Withernsea Methodist Church in Hull Road at 5.30pm and boys and girls aged from three years to 15 are welcome to join for a small weekly subscription.

The group is offering a free taster session for anyone interested in joining, just turn up at the Church Rooms.
