The new Withernsea Banking Hub will officially open its doors this week at its permanent location in Queen Street.
The hub, now based at 134a Queen Street – in the unit formerly occupied by Trax Café, between Aldi and the post office – will be launched on Friday, May 9, between 10.30am and 11.30am.
The ribbon will be cut by Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart, along with South East Holderness ward councillors Sean McMaster and Lyn Healing.
Run by Cash Access UK, a not-for-profit company funded by major banks, the hub is part of a national initiative to preserve access to cash and essential banking services in areas where traditional bank branches have closed.
The new facility replaces the temporary site at the Shores Centre and will be open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Services include cash withdrawals and deposits, cheque deposits, bill payments, balance checks and more – all previously available at the Shores.
Community banker sessions will also be offered: HSBC on Mondays from 9pm to 5pm, Lloyds on Tuesdays from 9pm to 5pm, Santander on Wednesdays from 9pm to 5pm, NatWest on Thursdays from 9pm to 5pm and Halifax on Fridays from 9am to 1pm.
Cllr Healing said: “The banking hub is moving from its temporary home at the Shores Centre to a new, permanent location on Queen Street. During its time at the Shores, many residents – not just from Withernsea but from surrounding villages too – relied on it for everyday banking and essential financial support.
“We were absolutely determined that this vital service would not be lost. On your behalf, we took up the mantle and worked closely with Cash Access to secure a permanent hub right here in our town.
“This is more than just a convenience – it’s an asset for our community, supporting residents, local businesses and the wider economy.
“A heartfelt thank you goes to Cash Access for their commitment to maintaining the service, and to the Shores Centre for stepping up as the temporary host. We’re proud to have been invited to open the new hub, and we know it will continue to serve our town and villages for many years to come.”
Cllr McMaster said: “I am incredibly pleased to have been invited to officially open the Banking Hub in Withernsea alongside my ward colleague Cllr Lyn Healing and our MP Graham Stuart. The new hub will be an incredible addition to the town.
“Over the years, we’ve seen several small bank branches close in Withernsea – a concern for residents and local businesses. With the new hub opening, access to much-needed banking services can continue. Cllr Healing and I wish the team at the Banking Hub the greatest success.”
