Audience chill out in the heat at free concert

By Terry Bearpark

The weather was perfect last Saturday as part two of Withstock took to the stage in Withernsea’s Valley Gardens.

It was a completely different type of line up from Unlock the Rock which entertained fans two weeks ago but the more relaxed style of music still attracted an appreciative audience for some first-class performances of popular music.

Headlining Acoustic and Chill was Jackson D, a unique vocalist and guitarist brimming with style. The Hull-based performer certainly wowed the audience, proving his high standing and popularity in the area.

He was supported by some great entertainers including Adam Davison, Carrie Martin, Squash, Sharon Garner and Paula Ryan, Stubbsie, Will Machine, Jim Danby, Work in Progress and Loudhailer Electric Company.

The hot weather where shade was at a premium did not deter fans who came to experience a full afternoon and evening of excellent entertainment.

The event was organised and compered by local poet Richard Harries with support from Withernsea Town Council.

Sound and lighting was in the very capable hands of local musician Kevin Lythe.

A licensed bar area helped visitors to keep cool whilst an abundance of food outlets kept their hunger at bay.

For the younger visitors there were games and the chance to learn how to be a circus performer with coaching by members of the Aba Daba Circus.

The town council and the hard-working band of volunteers are to be congratulated on their efforts to once again provide top-class free entertainment for residents and visitors alike.
