Another record attendance expected for new year swim

On New Year’s Day 2023, Hornsea Inshore Rescue will be holding its annual fun swim.

The last New Year’s Day swim saw a record- breaking people face the waters of the North Sea, watched by more than 2,500 people who all enjoyed the spectacle and fun as the swimmers were escorted to the sea’s edge by a Scottish piper. Swimmers were dressed in a variety of fancy costumes including Minions, Superman and a cuddly dog, and there were lots of Father Christmases as well as people in night attire and party frocks.

This year’s event is expected to beat last year’s attendance record. On the day, swimmers will once again be led down to the beach from the Hornsea Inshore Rescue boathouse at 12pm to the sound of the pipes.

All participants wishing to take part must register before the event. Sponsorship forms are available from Robinson’s News, Paul’s Barbers and Hampson’s Electric in Newbegin, Hornsea, No 10 Coffee Shop in the Market Place and all Hornsea pubs as well as online at hornsearescue.org.uk, or from [email protected].

Refreshments will be also available at the event for swimmers and spectators.
