Hull FC have announced the signing of rugby league megastar Daly Cherry-Evans from Sydney Roosters for the 2027 season.
By any measure, Cherry-Evans, known throughout the game as DCE, is already a legend of the sport in his own right, making his capture a huge coup for the Black and Whites.
The 37-year-old half-back has won the NRL Premiership with his long-term club Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles and, thanks in no small part to his influence, his current side Sydney Roosters currently sit joint-top of the NRL table.
He has also captained Queensland to State of Origin success and has twice won the Rugby League World Cup, as well as a World Cup 9s competition, with his native Australia.
After announcing the signing last Thursday evening, club chief executive Richie Myler told hullfc.com: “This is an enormous moment for Hull FC.
“Daly Cherry-Evans is one of the great players of the modern era and there are very few players anywhere in world rugby league with his record, leadership, experience and standing within the game.
“When a player of Daly’s stature decides that he wants to come to Super League and, specifically, wants to play for Hull FC, I think it says a great deal about where this club is heading.
“This is bigger than simply signing an outstanding half-back. We are bringing one of the most respected leaders in the sport of rugby league into our organisation and somebody who has spent his entire career operating at the very highest level.
“We have been very clear about our ambition for this club. We want Hull FC competing for the biggest honours in the game, we want world-class players representing this club, and we want our supporters to be excited about what we are building. The signing of Daly is a very significant part of that journey.
“I also think this is a tremendous signing for the Super League. Attracting one of the biggest names in the NRL to England creates interest well beyond Hull and demonstrates that this competition can still attract genuinely world-class players.
“Our supporters have been magnificent in the way they have backed the club and I think this announcement shows them the scale of our ambition.
“We can’t wait to welcome Daly and his family to Hull and see him run out in Black and White in 2027.”
