Choir seeks new members ahead of busy festive season

Hedon Mixed Voice Choir are calling for new members as they prepare for a busy season of performances across the area.

The choir, originally formed in Christmas 2008 as the Holderness Grange Choir, have been a much-loved part of the local community for more than 15 years. In 2018, to mark their 10th anniversary and to pay tribute to the people of Hedon and the surrounding villages who had supported them from the beginning, they adopted their current name.

Their next appearance will be at the 200th anniversary celebrations of the Haven Arms on Saturday, November 8, where they will perform alongside the Hull Male Voice Choir before joining together for a special finale. Choir director Gillian Hanslip said: “To be invited as guests for such a milestone event is a real honour.”

Further concerts include performances at St Augustine’s Church, Hedon, on Saturday, November 22, at 2pm with Priory Park Singers; Portobello Methodist Church on Saturday, November 29, at 2pm; and their main Christmas concert at Holderness Academy on Tuesday, December 9, at 7.30pm.

The Hedon Mixed Voice Choir are now seeking new members – particularly sopranos and male voices – to join their friendly group. No experience is required, just enthusiasm and a love of singing.

“We’re more than just a choir – we’re like a family,” said Gillian. “We laugh together, work hard together, and share the joy of music with our audiences.”

Choir member Ellie Birch said: “Being part of the choir has been such a rewarding experience. It’s a place where you can escape the stresses of daily life, do something you love, and make lasting friendships along the way. The buzz of performing together is something really special.”

Rehearsals take place on Tuesday evenings at Holderness Grange in Hedon. Anyone interested in joining can email [email protected] or call 07749 933485 for more details.
