Young people urged to sign up for ‘celebration of democracy’

Young people are being urged to sign up for UK Parliament Week 2024, a celebration of democracy aimed at helping schools and youth groups learn more about how democracy works.

The event will take place between November 18 and 24, and Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart is encouraging primary and secondary schools, as well as youth groups, to get involved.

Organised by Parliament, UK Parliament Week gives young people the chance to understand how the political system operates and how everyone can have a say in the future of the country.

Graham Stuart, who has long been committed to educating young people in his constituency about Parliament, often welcomes school groups on tours of the historic Palace of Westminster and visits schools throughout the year.

Parliament provides schools and youth groups with high-quality free resources to help plan lessons for children. In addition, Mr Stuart has created a video for groups to use in their lessons and offers certificates to pupils who participate. Schools and youth groups can sign up for their free resources for UK Parliament Week at ukparliamentweek.org/en/sign-up.

Mr Stuart has also offered to arrange future visits for schools and youth groups, who can contact him via email at [email protected].

He said: “UK Parliament Week is truly a celebration of democracy, and I urge schools and youth groups to sign up. I love my regular visits to schools and youth groups and my wish is that they engage and inspire as many young people as possible in our democracy.”
