Building work has started on a defunct East Riding Council customer service centre which has stood empty for a number of years.
An application to convert the building in Newbegin, Hornsea, into a restaurant was approved by the council in March.
Permission was also given by the council for temporary vehicle parking and a loading area on Tuesday, May 12.
A previous application for the redevelopment had been withdrawn last September.
There had been some opposition to the plans, which included environmental concerns about bats, and the new restaurant’s position within the Hornsea conservation area.
The development includes a new single-storey extension at the back, and outdoor seating to the front and rear.
There will be minimal changes to the front of the building, with the proposed additions of window boxes and a new sign.
The building is a traditional two-storey property which was built around 1900. The total site area measures 402 square metres.
