Withernsea’s McColl’s store to close

Supermarket chain Morrisons has confirmed that it will be shutting down Withernsea’s McColl’s store as part of a plan to close 132 outlets across the UK.

According to Morrisons, which bought the convenience store chain in a £190 million rescue deal earlier this year, the 132 stores that are deemed the least profitable will be closed, leading to 1,300 job losses.

The McColl’s store in Withernsea is set to close within three weeks.

According to Morrisons, workers at risk of redundancy “will be offered alternative employment at a nearby McColl’s store, Morrisons store, logistics operation or food-making centre”.

The Gazette has approached the store for comment.
