WI members were treated to a talk on clock restoration at the October meeting of Hollym WI, which took place in the village hall on Thursday, October 10.
Future dates were discussed, including a visit by the luncheon club to the Frying Farmer in Aldborough on October 22 and Hornsea Garden Centre on December 10, where members will enjoy a Christmas dinner, followed by a walk around the Christmas display — a good excuse to do some present hunting!
The speaker for the afternoon was Darrin Stevens, who gave an excellent and informative talk about the restoration of the church bell at St Nicholas Church in Withernsea.
After a handover ceremony on October 6, the bell now belongs to the people of Withernsea, not the church or its trustees. The cost of repairing the bell was £50,000, which included generous donations from local businesspeople and other fundraising events.
A tour around the church is to be organised soon for members to learn more about its history. Hollym WI’s Christmas fair will take place on Saturday, November 2, from 12.30pm to 3.30pm, featuring the usual activities, including the ever-popular cake stall.
