Villagers enjoy annual summer party

Having been rained off by the storms last year, Halsham villagers were determined to have their summer party this year.

The gazebo was put up on the previous Friday evening in gusty conditions, and on the morning of Saturday, June 29, the final preparations were made and children’s entertainment set up, including games, bouncy castle and rope swing.

Wine was chilled, Great Newsome barrels were tapped, and sandwiches, nibbles, sweets and cakes were all laid out ready for the arrival of the guests.

Live entertainment was provided by Kevin Young and John Pencheon, who, as the duo Colleen’s Fancy, treated visitors to Irish and folk songs, as well as taking requests from the appreciative audience. A spokeswoman said: “It was amazing how they were able to sing anything we asked for.

“There was plenty of opportunity for audience participation and Kevin even taught ‘volunteers’ from the audience how to perform a dance to one of the Irish songs.

“I think we mostly got it right, but where we weren’t sure we just made it up as we went along. It was great fun.

“All in all, it was a fantastic day and we’re already looking forward to the next event.”
