Welwick Parish Hall is set to benefit from a £72,000 investment as part of ambitious plans to make the building more energy efficient and move towards net zero.
The trustees of the hall have developed an architect-led plan which sets out full costings and potential savings. A summary of the 30-page report is available to view on the welwick.org website.
The improvements will include enhanced insulation, secondary glazing, specialist fans to lower rising heat, improved lighting, solar panels with battery storage, and eventually new radiators and an air source heat pump.
Trustees say the scheme will help cut power bills, provide a safe and warm space for residents in emergencies, and ensure the hall remains fit for purpose in the long term. They also intend to employ local tradespeople wherever possible.
Most of the funding will be sought through a series of grant applications, but the trustees hope residents and the wider community will also support fundraising efforts. Ideas include attending events, employer community fund applications, or staging sponsored activities.
“All contributions, no matter how small, would be welcome,” the trustees said.
They added that while many grants are available for planning – which has already been completed – they are seeking sources of capital funding. Anyone with ideas is asked to email [email protected].
