It has been another big week for Patrington Stanley.
The main talking point was surely the arrival of the new playing strips, which were proudly on show this weekend. The red and black home kit was used at Patrington Playing Fields by the reserves, while the white and red away kit travelled with the firsts up the coast to Aldbrough.
The club would again like to thank the kit sponsors for their support.
The home kit is sponsored by Meadley Groundworks & Haulage on the front of the shirt, The Hildyard Arms on the back and La Piccalinos on the sleeve.
The away kit is sponsored by The White Hart on the front, Superfly on the back and Grassby’s Ground Maintenance on the sleeve.
Attention should also be drawn to the charity sleeve on both kits, showing the club’s support for the fantastic work The Daniel Wilkinson Foundation is doing in the area.
That is not the only news on the kit front. A brand-new alternate strip is also nearing the end of its design phase, with hopes that the third kit will be available to use by the start of the season. The senior management are looking forward to sharing the striking collection.
Clubwear continues further, with those opting to sign for the club in line to receive quarter-zip jumpers, again around the start of the season, with sponsors for this to be released in due course.
Away from teamwear matters, training numbers seem to be settling in the early 30s for the time being, with Tuesday and Thursday last week attracting 31 and 32 faces respectively.
Although the hunt for more players to increase competition and continue the betterment of the squads is a never-ending battle at this level, the manager may well be breathing a sigh of relief as his own personal struggle with planning sessions to cater for the waves of players coming down is beginning to pose a challenge in itself.
Talk of more players from the area making an appearance continues, and they are always welcomed, but it also opens the door for the requirement of more coaching and managerial staff too.
At the time of writing, a fixture on Tuesday, July 28, at home to AFC Hull was still to be played, but due to report deadlines, there will not be time for a full write-up to be included in this week’s edition.
As for this upcoming weekend, pre-season opposition really begins to ramp up now, with all the chosen fixtures from here on out picked to push Stanley to their current limits and help management find flaws in what has otherwise been a near-seamless start.
Patrington will be without any matchday action at home, with both teams on the road on Saturday, August 1. The firsts travel to AFC Willerby for a friendly at Wolfreton School 4G, HU10 6HB, while the seconds are away to AFC Cottingham, also in a friendly, with the venue to be confirmed.
It has been a lot of hard work getting up and running, but the support of so many has made the efforts worthwhile. The club are hopeful this continues and that the relationship with the community strengthens further.
These things are a marathon, not a sprint, but it is always helpful to have such a good start.
A final word goes to the Hessle Sporting Club thirds goalkeeper who suffered a serious injury last weekend while playing, sustaining a broken kneecap. Best wishes go to him and the club.
