A 15-year-old girl from Hornsea has undertaken a 42-metre bungee jump in aid of two fundraisers.
On Saturday, May 10, Sinead Taylor completed an open-water bungee jump off Larpool Viaduct, near Whitby – the only bridge bungee jump in England – raising money for a school trip to Kenya and for Abbie’s Fund.
Her mother, Laura Rolling, said: “Sinead was very excited to do the jump, and the nerves never got the better of her. She jumped like she had no fear at all, and she was extremely proud of herself afterwards.”
Sinead said she was keen to take on the challenge for Abbie’s Fund after the loss of her sister Alexi, who was stillborn in 2016. The charity provides memory boxes for families who have experienced the loss of a child.
She said: “In 2016, my family experienced the heartbreaking loss of my sister, Alexi. She was my little sister and losing her was something none of us were prepared for. She would have turned nine this year. I often think about how she’d be joking around with us and filling the house with laughter.
“Abbie’s Fund was there for us during one of the hardest times in our lives. They supported my mum, dad and me – I was just six at the time – as we tried to understand and cope with our grief. Their work continues to help families just like ours every single day, and I’m proud to give back to them.”
The funds raised will also help pay for a 2026 school trip to Kenya, where Sinead will be volunteering at a school. Her work will include building toilets, assisting with lessons, and organising sports and activities for the children. At the end of the trip, she will also have the chance to explore the country – visiting the equator, going on safari, and learning more about Kenyan culture.
She added: “This trip is not just about travel – it’s about making a difference and being part of something bigger than myself.
“If you’re able to donate, no matter how big or small, it would mean the world to me. Your support will help two amazing causes – one very close to my heart, and one that’s helping build brighter futures for others.”
