The music of stars such as Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey and the Spice Girls will be featured in Withernsea High School’s latest production next week.
The school is hoping to maintain its track record of presenting top musicals following previous years’ presentations of classics including We Will Rock You, High School Musical, School of Rock and the Addams Family with this year’s staging of Popstars, which has been performed on stage in the USA, Europe and Australia.
Set in a school in the 1980s the State Talent Show sees a garage band having to change to a boy band to stand any chance of winning – but there is just one snag… they cannot dance.
However, an ultra-talented new girl is enlisted to give them a makeover and sparks soon fly.
Of course, romance is in the air for some and disappointment for others.
With 20 songs being featured, the young cast of 25 of all ages will be joined by 30 dancers to make it a night to remember.
Musical director Lewis Fryer has assembled a talented eight-piece band of pupils from the school including a former pupil who is returning once again to play.
Popstars will be staged for three nights in the main hall, from Tuesday, March 18, to Thursday, March 20, and each performance starts at 6.30pm.
Tickets are available from school reception or on the door at just £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.
