Two Patrington youngsters have been spotted litter-picking around the village as part of the Humberside Police Lifestyle programme.
Finley and Daniel, both 10, and also known as the Nature Ninjas, say they want to make Patrington greener and cleaner this summer. They have organised weekly litter picks while also building and placing bird boxes and bug hotels.
Finley said: “We have been going around Patrington doing litter picks and stuff like that. We’re going to start building bird boxes too. We’ve picked up two-and-a-half bags of litter. It makes the community look neat and tidy. We have also had permission from a local landowner to put our bird boxes on their land.”
The boys have been supported by businesses across Patrington, who have helped them to fundraise and gather equipment. They have also received backing from Patrington Parish Council, which has lent them litter pickers, gloves, hi-vis jackets and bags.
One of the biggest problems the boys have noticed is the number of cigarette stubs discarded on the ground. They say they have collected more than 150 in just two litter picks. They have also gathered plastic and glass bottles, cans and more.
The boys are now welcoming donations of wood, plant pots and seed packets for the second part of their project.
