New Withernsea Banking Hub officially opened

by Rebecca Hannant

A new permanent Banking Hub has opened in Withernsea, providing face-to-face access to cash and banking services in the town centre.

Located at 134a Queen Street next to Aldi, the facility replaces the temporary hub that had been operating from Shores since February.

It was officially opened on Friday, May 9, by Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart and South East Holderness ward councillors Sean McMaster and Lyn Healing, who had pledged to maintain banking access after Lloyds closed its Withernsea branch – the town’s last remaining bank – in 2023.

The new hub offers cash and cheque deposits, withdrawals, bill payments and meetings with representatives from five major banks. Services are available Monday to Friday, with a different bank on site each day: Monday – HSBC; Tuesday – Lloyds; Wednesday – Santander; Thursday – NatWest; Friday – Halifax (9am to 1pm).

Mr Stuart said: “Since the closure of Lloyds was announced in 2023, it’s been a race against the clock to make sure Withernsea didn’t lose banking services. I’m delighted that we’ve been able to secure access to cash in Withernsea.”

Cllrs Healing and McMaster added: “We were absolutely determined that this vital service would not be lost. This is more than just a convenience – it’s an asset for our community, supporting residents, local businesses and the wider economy.”

The temporary hub was made possible with support from Shores CEO Jayne Nendick, while the permanent site has been delivered in partnership with Cash Access UK.
