New Withernsea affordable housing project launched

A total of 40 homes on a development currently being built in Withernsea have been designated for social and affordable housing through a partnership between East Riding Council and Gleeson Homes.

The Sands Reach project is funded through the council’s Housing Revenue Account, and will provide a mix of two, three and four-bedroom homes. The development is designed to improvement local housing provision and support the community.

The new scheme will provide 29 homes for social rent, ensuring affordability for those most in need, and 11 homes under Shared Ownership.

All properties will achieve high EPC ratings, ensuring energy efficiency and helping to reduce energy bills. East Riding Council said this supported its ambition to lower household costs and promote sustainability.

Councillor Michael Lee, cabinet member for housing and infrastructure, said: “This is a great scheme to improve housing provision in Withernsea, and support residents in need. We look forward to welcoming the first occupants to their new homes, in due course.”

Andrew Davies, Gleeson Homes divisional managing director, said: “This partnership is about more than building houses – it’s about creating a place where people can put down roots and enjoy the benefits of coastal living.

“Working with East Riding Council ensures that these homes will make a real difference to local families.”

The first homes are expected to be ready from 2026 and will be allocated in line with the council’s housing allocations policy.
