At Monday’s meeting of the Patrington Parish Council, two special presentations were made.
The first was to Lifestyle team the Patrington Mini Medics who were named Lifestyle 2025 Champions in the competition run by Humberside Police.
The group – Harvey Ralph, Amber Stephenson, Millie Jones and Felix Forman – worked hard over the summer to fund first-aid training for residents and are continuing to provide a portable defibrillator, first-aid kit, trained first-aider and mini medic for events and activities within the local community.
Parish council chairman Helen Murphy congratulated them on their achievement and everything they do for the parish. She presented them with vouchers and gifts from the council as a reward for their great efforts.
A new award for the parish is Patrington Parish Council Voluntary Award and there were two recipients for the 2025 award.
Each November Gareth Walker has made and planted hundreds of poppies for the parish, along with silhouettes of servicemen and conflict-related objects. Assisted by his wife Louise and family he has ensured that the parish “will remember them”. He has also organised a Christmas party for senior citizens in the parish at the Hildyard Arms this Friday.
Helen thanked him for everything he does for the parish and presented him and his wife Louise with the award.
Also receiving the award, but unable to be present, was David Clark who, over the past 30 years, has looked after the maintenance of gates and fencing around the play park, repaired gates on the park and cemetery several times, kept the cemetery tidy and is deemed a general good soul to have around the village. He has never asked for recognition nor help for the costs he has incurred but just got on with it.
He is now in his 80s and still out and about every morning to check the cemetery and play park, picking up litter, feeding the birds and dogs he meets, and reports any untoward happenings.
He is a well-known member of the village and always stops for a chat with anyone he comes across. His award was delivered to him at his home by Helen.
