MP helps clean graves of the fallen

Commonwealth war graves volunteer Darren England has teamed up with Beverley and Holderness MP Graham Stuart to clean up headstones at England Hill Cemetery, Withernsea.

On Friday, March 7, the MP teamed up with Darren, who is also the president of the Withernsea branch of the Royal British Legion.

Darren said: “As part of my role within the Commonwealth War Graves Commission I look after all the graves of the fallen within Withernsea. On Friday, March 7, Graham joined me conducting my checks of Withernsea Cemetery.

“After he heard what the CWGC does and its history I walked around pointing out the graves of the fallen and giving a little history on each of them.

“Both Graham and I then cleaned several of the CWGC headstones before he laid wooden crosses on them all.”
