Man held over ‘axe damage’ to supermarket parcel kiosk

A 52-year-old man has been arrested after ‘significant damage’ was caused to a parcel kiosk at a Withernsea supermarket in the early hours of this morning.

Humberside Police were called to reports of suspicious noises coming from the Tesco supermarket in Withernsea at 3am on Tuesday, February 25.

Officers attended the Queen Street store and discovered significant damage to the parcel kiosk. An axe was also recovered.

An area search was conducted and a man was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of an offensive weapon in a public place and going equipped for burglary.

He remains in police custody while officers continue their lines of inquiry.

Witnesses or anyone with information that may assist officers are asked to call the non-emergency number 101 quoting log 25 of February 25.

Staff at Withernsea Tesco were unable to comment.
