One of Hornsea’s biggest annual events has received a huge boost thanks to the hard work of the Hornsea and District Lions Club.
The popular Bike Show is to return this August after ill health saw the summer tourist attraction cancelled in 2024.
One local bike enthusiast said: “I’m so glad the Lions are supporting it. The biker event does so much for everyone in town. The Lions work so hard.”
Mick Parry, president of Hornsea and District Lions Club, presented a cheque for £5,000 to Rachel Charlton, Gareth Lawrence and Alan Cusworth of Hornsea Events CIC.
Alan was delighted to receive the donation, which will kick-start the organisation’s plans for the Bike Show on August 17.
He said: “We want to say a big thank you to the Lions for making things easier.”
He explained how the large donation would help toward the advance costs.
“It’s going to go a long way to help with medical, legal and insurance fees that have to be paid to secure the day. It’s a huge amount, and we’re very lucky to have the backing of the Lions.”
The Lions have also answered the organisers’ call for help in other ways. Volunteers and Lions members will provide cloakroom facilities for visiting bikers on the day.
Lions’ member Mel Watson described the service as a space “for bikers to leave their helmets and leather jackets”.
With a fresh start for the Bike Show, the new organisers face a substantial amount of work. Alan added: “We are in need of marshals to help on the day. We also would like to hear from anyone who’d like to help with the setup.
“None of it is possible without the great donation from the Lions and the sponsorships from local businesses like Longbeach Leisure Park.
“The support from volunteers and residents helps too. They make a big difference.”
