Withernsea Lighthouse welcomed an estimated 250 visitors for a special open day showcasing the latest changes to its Made in Withernsea exhibition.
Despite dreary weather on Monday, October 26, residents and visitors turned out in force to see the refreshed exhibition, which celebrates people with links to the town who have gone on to make their mark in a wide range of fields.
The displays have recently been updated, with some of those featured rotated to make way for new stories, while new display cases have also been installed to allow the museum to show a wider range of objects and memorabilia.
Lighthouse manager Lindsey Jones said the response to the changes had been very positive.

She said: “We were really pleased with how well attended the day was, particularly given the weather. We estimate that around 250 people came through the doors.
“It was also lovely to see so many Withernsea residents coming into the museum and taking an interest in the new exhibition.”
Visitors were invited to complete feedback forms for the exhibition’s funders, with Lindsey saying the comments received throughout the day had been overwhelmingly positive.
There was also plenty for younger visitors, with a colouring competition, model lighthouse-building, face painting and a treasure hunt among the activities on offer.

Children were also able to enjoy a free hot chocolate in the café, with Mandy and Soni helping to keep visitors refreshed.
Lindsey said the event would not have been possible without the support of the Friends of Withernsea Lighthouse, whose volunteers helped to organise and run the children’s activities throughout the day.
She added: “The day was a resounding success and we couldn’t have managed without the Friends of Withernsea Lighthouse.
“They facilitated the games and activities and really helped to make the day what it was.”
Further work on the Made in Withernsea exhibition is expected to continue over the winter as the Lighthouse team looks at how best to use the available space and introduce more stories in future.
