‘Let’s stand together to save our club’

by Rebecca Hannant

Hedon’s Royal British Legion Club has launched an urgent appeal to raise £5,000 to secure its future.

Based in Magdalen Gate, the club has been a home for veterans and their families for decades, hosting regular entertainment, bingo, quizzes, darts, snooker and fundraising events, as well as providing a space for private functions.

The building itself has deep roots in the town’s history. Originally a Baptist Chapel built in 1801, it became the Legion’s headquarters after the Second World War. Over the years, it has been extended and adapted, with a concert room added in 1974 to create the fully integrated social club that exists today.

A spokesman for Hedon Royal British Legion said: “Hedon RBL Club is at risk. Please help us to keep this vital home for veterans, families and our community open. Every donation helps.

“The Hedon and District Royal British Legion Club has been at the heart of our community for generations. It’s a place where veterans find support, families gather, and we come together to remember those who served.

“But rising costs now put the club at risk of closure. If we lose it, we lose a vital part of our town’s heritage and a lifeline for many who rely on it for friendship, support and community spirit.

“Your donation will help cover essential running costs and keep the doors open – ensuring the club can continue to serve veterans, their families and the people of Hedon for years to come.

“Every donation, big or small, makes a difference. If you can’t give, please share this page to help spread the word. Let’s stand together to save the Hedon and District Royal British Legion Club.”
