Young people across the region are being urged to sign up for this year’s Humberside Police Lifestyle Project before registration closes this week.
The deadline for entries is midnight on Wednesday, August 5, with organisers encouraging anyone still considering taking part to register before time runs out.
The annual initiative run by Humberside Police, challenges teams of young people aged between 10 and 16 to spend part of their summer holidays planning and delivering projects that make a positive difference in their local communities.
This year’s project has already attracted a huge response, with 215 teams, representing 676 young people, registered to take part.
Participants can choose projects that matter to them, whether that involves improving local parks and green spaces, supporting charities, helping vulnerable residents or raising awareness of important community issues.
Alongside making a lasting difference in their neighbourhoods, the scheme helps young people develop valuable life skills, including teamwork, leadership, communication and problem-solving, while encouraging them to stay active, make new friends and enjoy a rewarding summer experience.
There are two ways for young people to take part. The Friends Teams category allows groups of between two and five friends to enter together and take on the Lifestyle challenge. As well as the satisfaction of helping their community, teams will have the chance to win a range of prizes, including an adventurous experience for the whole team or even a holiday to Paris!
Young people who are members of a youth club, sports team or other registered organisation can also enter through the Youth Teams category. These teams can include up to 25 members, with the added incentive of winning £500 for their club or organisation to spend on equipment, activities or other improvements.
To take part, teams must include young people aged between 10 and 16, be supported by an appropriate adult, and have a community-focused project idea.
Humberside Police is encouraging parents, carers, youth organisations, sports clubs and community groups to spread the word so as many young people as possible can benefit from the opportunity.
