Godfrey to perform six-hour poetry marathon

A six-hour poetry marathon will take place at St Nicholas Church in Withernsea this weekend, featuring work by local poet Godfrey Holmes.

The event, on Saturday, September 19, will see Godfrey read continuously from his own work, including poems that have previously appeared in the Gazette.

His poetry has been collected into four books, each published in support of a different good cause, and selections from across the volumes will feature during the day.

The event is intended to be informal, with people welcome to drop in for as little or as long as they wish rather than having to stay for the full six hours.

Visitors can arrive at any time from 9.50am, with the reading taking place at St Nicholas Church, off Park Avenue.

Admission is free and refreshments will be available, along with cushions for those settling in for a longer spell.

Organisers say everyone is welcome, young or old, and there is no need to announce your arrival or book in advance.
