Funding boost for Withernsea’s festive family event

Withernsea Town Council has secured two more funding boosts towards a festive event in Valley Gardens next month.

A £5,000 Do It for East Yorkshire grant from East Riding Council will go towards Christmas in the Valley, which will be held on Saturday, December 3.

The free family event, from 4pm-8pm, will be the first of its kind and it is hoped that it will pave the way for more similar seasonal events throughout the year.

There will be a brass band, stalls, Santa’s grotto, the Snow Queen and White Wolf, festive characters, mulled wine, games and treats, carols, rides and festive food, the town’s Christmas tree and the first phase of the new town lighting display – match-funded by Yorkshire Coast BID, and all hosted on the night by Seaside FM.

The town council has also secured funding of £500 from the Big Local Community Grant Scheme towards the cost of new figurines and fittings in Valley Gardens.

This will provide a new display for Christmas 2022 and will add an extra sparkle to the Christmas in the Valley event, town clerk Jayne Moxon said.

She added: “We are working with other partners in the town to develop the events offered. We are very grateful to have this project sponsored by the Do It for East Yorkshire fund, and especially thankful to the regeneration and funding team at East Riding Council, and Shores, who have helped us develop this new project.

“The funding will help us get what we need to create something new for families to enjoy, without the expense of having to travel further afield to take part in Christmas festivities. We are hoping people will come into the town to come to the event and enjoy the rest of what the town has to offer.”
