Family’s celebrations boost local groups

A well-known Withernsea family has made a substantial donation to two local organisations following birthday and wedding anniversary celebrations.

John and Christine Windas both celebrated their 80th birthdays in May and their 55th wedding anniversary in June, and to mark these milestones their children, Claire, Joanne and Jonathan, organised a party for family, friends, former colleagues and neighbours at the Meridian Centre in Withernsea.

Donations and prizes for a tombola in lieu of cards and gifts were received, and the donation of their fee by local entertainers the Pub Lads, well known for their fundraising for good causes, went towards the cash raised.

Daughter Claire also organised an event at the Plough in Hollym for her son Lewis and wife Emily following their wedding in New York, and a personal donation from this event was also added to the pot.

All five members of the Windas family were former Scouts or Guides and fondly remember their happy times as members, and so it was decided that the cash would be given to Scouts and Guides of the Withernsea Group, a grand total of £1,700, divided between the two.

The first donation was made to Scouts, Cubs, Squirrels and Beavers at the scout hut in Hull Road and the second was made to Guides, Brownies and Rainbows at their meeting place at the village hall in Hollym.

Both groups intend to use the donations to help with running costs and to provide something special for the youngsters.
