Family fun and safety day at village fire station

Preston Fire Station will host an open day later this month.

The station will welcome visitors between 10.30am and 3pm on Saturday, October 26. A range of family activities will be available, including local craft stalls, inflatables, food and drinks, and games. Other emergency services and representatives from local businesses and organisations will also be in attendance.

The aim is to increase awareness of the station and to help recruit new firefighters and staff, not only at Preston but also at other Humberside Fire & Rescue Service stations.

Preston firefighter Craig Smith said: “We also want to create awareness of water, road, and fire safety, as well as teach children about risk and the emergency services’ daily duties.

“We also haven’t had an open day in over 10 years, so we want to try and make it an annual day going forward where families and individuals can come and have fun, gain some information, watch a fire service demonstration, and keep the kids entertained for a small cost.”

The station will also host a raffle and tombola on the day, and prize donations are welcomed and can be dropped off at the fire station before October 26.

Funds raised will be donated to charities, including the Firefighters’ Charity, which supports serving and former firefighters and their families.

Craig said: “We have chosen the Firefighters’ Charity due to this being a close-to-heart charity that works with the fire service and helps staff all over the country.”
