Family fish and chip restaurant named among top 20 takeaways

Whiteheads Fish and Chips of Hornsea has reached the top 20 Takeaway of the Year finalists in this year’s National Fish and Chip Awards.

Hundreds of applications were received from fish and chip shops from across the UK and Northern Ireland after progressing from the top 40 stage. Whiteheads is the only East Yorkshire takeaway finalist in this year’s awards.

Geoff Whitehead said: “We are a family business celebrating 25 years of serving customers and I thank the many friends and loyal customers who return again and again to enjoy their freshly cooked Whiteheads fish and chips, including gluten-free choices, seven days a week.

“Most especially, I cannot praise highly enough the great Whiteheads team whose hard work and highly professional customer service has made the top 20 UK takeaway accolade a reality.

“Throughout Whiteheads’ 25 years of serving the best quality fish and chips, we have consistently sourced the finest ingredients and I thank our suppliers for the service and dedication they provide.

“While many things have changed since we first opened our door, Whiteheads’ commitment to the finest quality fish and chips and highest standard of customer service has remained constant.”

Andrew Crook, president at the National Federation of Fish Friers, which hosts the awards, said: “We received such a high standard of takeaway applications this year, making the judging process very difficult, yet rewarding.

“The top 20 really demonstrate a strong commitment to the fish and chip industry and to the British public. Congratulations to everyone involved – this is a massive achievement in itself.”

The ultimate winners and runners-up in each category will be announced on February 28 at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.
