The largest beach fishing competition in Europe is coming to Holderness later this month.
The Paul Roggeman European Open Beach Championship is being held over three days from Friday, March 13 to Sunday, March 15.
Hundreds of fishing enthusiasts are expected to take part from all ages from juniors to seniors, who will be competing for anything from cash prizes to top-of-the-line fishing equipment and, of course, bragging rights.
It’s set to be a fun-filled weekend, with top industry names exhibiting their sea angling kit, entertainments, and goody bags being given out to the first 500 competitors.
The nine participating beaches stretch all the way down the coast from Bridlington North Beach down to Kilnsea. A digital handbook is available to download with all the information required including maps and rules and regulations, and important safety advice.
The event has been going for 32 years and is named after founder Paul Roggeman, who died in 2015.
Tickets for the main competition are available from Sand le Mere holiday park in Tunstall, with early booking advised to reserve a spot. They can also be booked online.
The popular Flattie Bash warm-up event, being held on the Friday lunchtime at Hornsea and Fraisthorpe beaches, has to be booked separately.
