After a sodden start to the year, at last it looks as if the football season can return in earnest for Easington United’s teams, with all four set to be in action this weekend.
On Saturday, the #EzGirls kick things off with a big game at home to Hessle Sporting Club Pumas in the semi-finals of the East Riding FA U16s Girls Cup. Kick-off at Low Farm is 10.30am for what will hopefully be the first game staged at the ground in 2026.
Then, at 2pm both men’s teams are in action, in the first of 25 games (15 first team, 10 reserves) scheduled to be played before the season’s end in May.
Ahead of a run of six successive home league games, the first team are again on the road, making the trip north to Filey in the Right Car East Riding County League Premiership Division. Meanwhile, coming in the opposite direction are Flamborough, who provide the reserves’ Division 1 opponents.
The action concludes on Sunday when the Awd Ezzies travel to meet Tickton in Hull & District Veterans League Division 6.
For Andy Graham, the first-team fixture provides his players with some more much-needed game time ahead of their upcoming County Cup semi-final.
Once again the manager was left to lament the recent lay-off as a part cause of his team’s defeat last week at Haltemprice.
For the second successive league game, the locals were edged out by the odd goal in five, among which was what appeared to be a very harsh penalty call.
That said, Graham conceded that his team hadn’t really exerted enough control on the game overall to bring home the points. He also praised the members of what was a much-changed playing squad at Sirius Academy and will hope to have some regular faces back for what looks like being another stern test.
Filey were the Eastenders’ opening-day opponents at Low Farm, the visitors’ 3-2 loss that day being one of only four suffered in the league to date.
Their 2026 form is very impressive, with only a surprise league cup loss on penalties at Seamer Sports blotting a record of four straight wins.
A 5-0 romp at South Cave United Reserves was followed with three home wins, firstly against Holme Rovers in the East Riding Senior County Cup (3-1), and then over both Beverley Town Development (2-1) and Hedon Rangers Reserves (5-3) in the league.
It’s a record that leaves the hosts handily placed in fifth, with games in hand over all the teams above them.
Early squad news sees Bob Eldon-Smith, Tom Ward and Cal West all set to return, but Charlie Clark and Adam Jamieson are both again absent.
At Low Farm, John Harrison will be hoping his team can eke out some sort of result in a relegation battle that has taken another twist with the resignation of Newlands Park Hotel from the division.
The Scarborough side’s withdrawal means it’s now a three-horse race at the bottom between the stiffs, Newby and Thorpepark Rangers.
The arrival of a Flamborough team that has lost only twice all season, and with only a 12-11 penalty defeat to Heslington to spoil an otherwise unbeaten run that stretches back seven games to last November, means it’s another big ask for an Easington side in desperate need of a lift.
Away from the action, the club is currently seeking sponsors for its annual Eastenders Race Night at the Granby on Saturday, April 25.
Race sponsorship is available at £25 and can be secured via email to [email protected], via the club website and social media pages, or by speaking directly to a club member.
