Eastenders experience another washout

All three games involving Easington United teams were postponed last weekend, following persistent rainfall for much of Friday.

The Third Team’s scheduled trip to Robin in ER County League Division 6 was the first to go, following the decision by Hull City Council to declare all pitches under their control unfit for use on Friday afternoon. Later that night, Flamborough AFC postponed the ER County League Division 7 game against our Fourths, with the rain having rendered a planned pitch inspection on Saturday morning academic.

The trio of postponements was then completed following an inspection at Low Farm on Saturday, which found several areas of the pitch to also be unplayable, curtailing any hopes of the Humber Premier League Division 1 game against Brandesburton going ahead.

Hopefully, a better forecast this week should allow all four scheduled matches to go ahead as planned.

In Humber Premier League Division 1, the Eastenders travel to Alderman Kneeshaw to play Chaos United (2pm), looking to avenge a last minute defeat in the corresponding fixture at Low Farm.

Manager Craig Foster is without Chris Frost and Charlie Holden from the squad selected to play Brandesburton last weekend. However, he welcomes Andy Graham and Luke Jeffery back, while Craig Havercroft and Darrel Thompson both come into the equation having declared their availability.

Chaos are unbeaten in their last three outings, a run that began with a 5-3 win at Driffield EI and also includes a 2-0 away win over Brandesburton and a share of the spoils with Bridlington Town Rovers.

There’s also a difficult looking away game in store for the Eastenders Reserves who make the short trip to Withernsea in ER County League Division 2 (2pm).

Manager Brad Bowden will hope that the return of a few familiar faces at First Team level allows him to field a more representative side than that which succumbed to a 0-5 home defeat in the teams’ previous meeting.

The trio of Saturday fixtures is completed in Division 7 where the Fourths travel to play AFC Cottingham Reserves at King George V Playing Fields in Kirkella (2pm).

On Sunday, the Awd Ezzies are away at Little Weighton, hoping to close the gap on the teams above them in the Hull Vets League Division 5 promotion race.

Away from the action, a reminder that the Mike Wilson Memorial Night takes place in the Granby on Saturday, March 26. Along with entertainment provided by local group The Pub Lads, people will be invited to share their memories of “Mickey Bo” on an evening from which all proceeds will go to the WISHH charity for Wards 30 and 32 at Castle Hill Hospital.
