Double donation boost for lifeboat charity

Hornsea Inshore Rescue has received a double boost thanks to two cheque presentations from local supporters.

Residents at Mere Hall Care Home have chosen the lifeboat as their Charity of the Year, and on Friday, February 13, CEO and station manager Sue Hickson-Marsay MBE was invited to receive a donation of £250.

The funds were collected through donations and a range of activities including tombolas organised within the home.

On behalf of the crew and management, Sue thanked the residents for their support, saying: “It is lovely support such as this which keeps the lifeboat operational and able to keep up its lifesaving role.

“We enjoy coming to Mere Hall and have also enjoyed having the staff and residents as our guests at the Lifeboat station. We are thrilled to be Mere Hall’s Charity of the Year.”

Further support came from members of Hornsea Indoor Bowls Club, who gathered earlier this month to watch televised coverage of member and trainee manager James Baxter competing in the World Indoor Bowls Championships. After progressing through the field, James eventually lost to world number 10 Darren Burnett in a nail-biting tie breaker.

During the screening, a collection was taken among members, which James requested should be donated to Hornsea Inshore Rescue. It raised £50 and was presented to Sue at the bowls centre on Friday morning.

James said he had chosen to support Hornsea Inshore Rescue because it was a “truly local organisation doing a wonderful job”.

In turn, Sue thanked him for the donation, saying it was gratifying to regularly receive support from local people and that such contributions helped keep the boat afloat and able to continue its lifesaving operations.
