Discover Hedon’s ‘terrifying’ history

Hedon History Walks will present a Halloween walk on the night itself, Thursday, October 31.

The walk, entitled An ABC of Hedon’s Hideous History, Accidents, Bloodshed, and Carnage, starts at Market Hill at 7pm, and the fee is £5 per person.

It may not be suitable for young children, but well-behaved dogs are welcome. The walk should last around 90 minutes and is on pavements and paths. There is no need to book – walkers can just turn up.

Tony Porter, who set up Hedon History Walks, said they had been running for more than eight years and that he loved telling tales about the town’s past.

He said: “I am no historian, but I began by reading about the town. I realised that I thoroughly enjoyed the research. Passing on these stories is a great way of using that research and connecting people with the past. Hedon has a very long history, and it includes some terrible, terrible events over the years.

“We have ghost stories, something not believed by everyone, but there are also many murders and thrilling mysteries to introduce as we walk about the town. You will never feel the same about Hedon again after the walk!”
