People in the Hornsea area are being encouraged to discover more about a new affordable housing development off Cliff Road.
The new development will become part of the 38,000 properties for rent, shared ownership and sale by Together Housing Group.
Together Homes held an open evening at Hornsea Leisure Centre last Thursday for prospective homeowners to see the plans for the Shearwater View development. It consists of 66 properties, 26 of which are shared-ownership homes, including eight sought-after bungalows. All of the homes will meet low-carbon specifications by including air-source heat pumps and EV charging points.
Together Homes hopes to appeal to local first-time buyers by offering an exclusive four-week window to apply for shared-ownership homes on a site adjacent to Kidds in Cliff Road. Together Housing Group hopes the new homes will make it easier for first-time buyers in the Hornsea area.
A spokesman from the group said: “Together Housing and Together Homes, part of the Together Housing Group, are partnering with Lovell Homes and Homes England to deliver affordable homes for local people. The development will offer a mix of homes for affordable rent and shared ownership, supporting our shared vision of building sustainable communities.”
Plans show the inclusion of a play area, and were amended to prevent through access to Ashcourt Drive.
“As a gesture of goodwill, we are offering Hornsea residents an exclusive four-week period ahead of all other applicants to register their interest. This is not a planning requirement, but our commitment to working positively with the local community.”
The association is working with Lovell Homes on the development, with similar new-builds in Kirkella, Beverley, Hessle and Hull.
Together Housing Group said: “By combining the Lovell Homes’ quality standard with Together Housing’s affordable offer, we are committed to expanding housing options in Hornsea. This ensures that residents who may be priced out of the market or with a need for affordable housing can find their ideal home.”
A spokeswoman for Together Homes added: “We are building communities, not houses. I am hoping that those people in Hornsea that are stuck in a rent trap will apply.”
However, a number of people were frustrated by the lack of advertising around the event. A single mother had hoped to find out how it might help her. “I’m disappointed it wasn’t advertised better. I didn’t know it was on. I rent, and I’ve moved three times in five years. It messes up school for my daughter.”
