Date set for community raffle draw in aid of RNLI

A major community fundraising event in support of Withernsea RNLI will take place next month, following what organisers have described as an unprecedented response from the town in the wake of the New Year tragedy on the seafront.

The Withernsea RNLI community raffle draw will be held on Thursday, February 26, from 7pm at the Boating Social Club on South Promenade.

The event has been organised by local resident and business owner Teresa Mansell, who helped coordinate the wide-ranging fundraising effort as the scale of the incident became clear, reflecting the overwhelming desire of people in the community to show appreciation and support.

The evening will also feature an auction, tombola and bingo, with all funds raised going directly to Withernsea RNLI.

Residents, businesses and community groups across Withernsea have already contributed prizes and donations, reflecting the strength of feeling in the town after the tragic deaths of Sarah and Grace Keeling, of Nottinghamshire, and Withernsea man Mark Ratcliffe.

Several outlets, including the Gazette at 170 Queen Street, Withernsea, are continuing to sell raffle tickets, which are priced at £5 each.
