On Saturday, August 23, a Pimm’s on the Lawn fundraising event was held in support of St Margaret’s Church, Hilston.
The event took place in the garden of the village’s Pasture House, with the kind permission of Sue Jones and Jackie Cracknell.
More than 60 guests were in attendance, with the event raising in excess of £700. This money will contribute to the maintenance and continued operation of the church which, until recently, had been at risk of closure.
Rev Alisdair Laird and Parochial Church Council (PCC) member Colin Wilson delivered a short address and provided a guided tour of St Margaret’s, offering a brief history of the building and its significance to the local community.
“Despite the cloudy but thankfully dry day, the event was very well attended and we are extremely grateful for the support shown,” said supporter Tina Danby. “Events like this are essential for keeping churches open and active within the community.”
Thanks were extended to members of the newly reformed PCC: Sue Jones, Colin Wilson, Graham and Caroline Blythe, Mike and Karen Westmorland, and Janice Harvey.
Additional thanks were given to volunteers, including Chris Midgely, Irene Fox, and Tina Danby, for their donations and assistance in organising the event, which included refreshments and a raffle.
